DDH - Graf's Method
Understanding Hip Dysplasia
Hip dysplasia, also known as developmental dysplasia of the hip (DDH) or congenital hip dislocation, is a condition where the hip joint does not fit properly. The top of the femur does not fit snugly into the hip socket, often because the socket is shallow. This misalignment can cause the hip to dislocate easily, increasing the risk of future dislocations. DDH is typically present from birth or early childhood and is more common in first-born females, and breech births, can have a genetic component, often running in families.
Importance of Early Diagnosis and Treatment
Benefits of the Graf Method
The Graf is a vital tool in detecting early cases of DDH and dysplastic hips in infants. Doctors check babies’ hips multiple times during their development, starting immediately after birth during the newborn physical examination and again at six to eight weeks. Gentle manipulation of the baby’s hip joints can reveal symptoms such as:
- Discomfort or pain
- Loose hips
- One leg longer than the other
Baby System Range of Products
The Baby System range of products, developed with the cooperation of Prof. Reinhard Graf, is designed for the prevention and treatment of DDH. These products utilize the world-renowned Graf method for ultrasound classification of developmental dysplasia of the hip.
Graf Classification and Ecographic Positioning
Graf’s Cradle (Rapid-Eco + Eco-Support)
The descriptions used in the Graf method assume the standard projection is an ultrasound image of the hip set up as a vertical right hip AP view. The Graf’s Cradle is designed to position the baby correctly for a scan, holding the newborn still without needing third-party assistance. This enables doctors to perform quick and precise medical examinations. During the scan, doctors can observe and analyze data on a monitor, with the EcoSupport allowing precise movements to avoid diagnostic errors. RapidEco is washable, made from advanced materials, and simplifies the scanning process. The system was designed, certified, and authorized by Prof. Dr. Reinhard Graf.
